Iraq Participates in International Symposium in Tokyo on Protecting Antiquities and Promoting Youth Awareness of Cultural Heritage

Description

An Iraqi delegation, headed by Professor Dr. Imad Ibrahim Dawood, Dean of Mazaya College, and including a number of Iraqi archaeologists, participated in the second symposium held at the headquarters of the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Property in Tokyo. This symposium followed up on the first symposium, which focused on ways to protect Iraqi antiquities from destruction and strengthen the connection of young people to their cultural heritage, which spans more than seven thousand years.

During the symposium, Dr. Dawood presented a survey that included the opinions of students from five humanities departments at Mazaya University College. Analysis of the survey revealed a significant increase in the level of intellectual engagement among Iraqi youth with their national heritage, which is considered a cornerstone for consolidating national identity and belonging to the land.

Dr. Dawood is scheduled to deliver lectures at Kyoto and Maria Universities over the next two days, where he will also meet with Japanese researchers who have developed modern techniques for the conservation and preservation of Iraqi antiquities.
